An Aeronautical lab under the Department of Mechanical Engineering(DME), Central Campus, IOE came to life on 16th of September, 2017. “This is first step to the long pathway of developing academic infrastructure in the field of Aerospace and Aeronautics Science and Engineering of the Nation” said Sudip Bhattrai, Senior Scientist and Asst. Professor of Aerospace Science and Engineering of DME, Central Campus. “The lab will be constantly updated along, will focus on demonstrations and academic purposes in coming days. The students will be assembling parts, get to know about the different aspects of aeronautics by interacting with them practically” he added.

The lab was rather an organization of acquired materials and equipments from Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC). A large quantity of aircraft Scrap components was provided by the Technical department of NAC that are intended to serve laboratories facilities for the current course of Avionics, Airframe, Gas-Turbines. This facility will greatly enhance the academic reach of aerospace engineering in the IOE.

Number of engineers, aero-stream students were involved in the establishment event of lab. The aeronautics discipline of Nepal is currently restricted to the Commercial and Govermental sector only and this probably is the first to reach any academic field. For land locked country like Nepal it is justifiable and recommendable to put aeronautics agenda in the University level.
